Here’s the buzz on the street: RAFI (that’s the Rural Advancement Foundation International) and Burt’s Bees to plant up to one “b”illion wildflowers on farms across the United States. These are pollinator plants that will help to increase the dwindling bee population.
It’s a fun project all around. First off, for every person who removes the ‘b’s from a tweet or a Facebook post and adds the hashtag #bringbackthebees AND for every purchase of a limited edition “b”-less Burt’s Bees lip balm, they’ll donate 1000 seeds. Take a look!
Then, RAFI will distribute the seeds, and help educate farmers on how to access programs that promote pollinators. The farmers and RAFI will pool their knowledge, “to make sure that together we are learning how beneficial pollinator habitat fits into existing production practices.”
We love that. And we love that we’re going to get some of those flowers! We’re looking for them in the next few weeks, so maybe next time when you purchase from the Reedy Fork Farm Store – you’ll be able to see the flowers growing, adding beauty to our farm, and a wonderful habitat environment for many, many bees.
PS According to the Burt’s Bees Facebook page, they’re already up to 880,000,000 flowers! Not many more to a billion!
