Winter is coming, and to get ready for the days when there isn’t a lot of grass in the fields, or when the fields may be covered with snow, we’re making silage. Silage is grass that essentially has been pickled. We cut the grasses, then chop it up pretty finely and put it into a large trench called a ‘trench silo’. We then cover the trench to make it air tight, and wait a couple months. The result – silage!
Silage is packed full of nutrition for our cows – and (of course!) it’s certified organic.
Here are some pictures of us making silage this year.
