Reedy Fork Farm has a rich heritage with lots of traditions. One of those traditions is making molasses. It’s been passed from generation to generation. In fact, the sugar cane press is over 100 years old!
The sweet sorghum for this year’s molasses was planted in late May. We harvested it by hand – well, with machetes! We started with 75 gallons of sweet sorghum juice and ended up with nine gallons of molasses.
And no, we don’t sell it -we just keep it in the kitchen and eat it!
