The 4-H Youth Chicken Program just finished their course with their first annual 4-H Chicken Show and Sale at the Buster Sykes Demonstration Farm in Mebane. Twelve children ages 6 – 16 presented their birds, and the Grand Champion was none other than Cherry’s great niece Sage Robertson! Sage fed her chicken Reedy Fork Farm Organic Feed, part of her overall excellent care regimen.
The Youth Chicken Program runs for eight months, and children learn all about taking care of chickens. They are each presented with a chicken to care for, they have to complete a project log, and then they enter their bird into competition. They can either choose to keep their chicken or sell it.
Reedy Fork Farm was a sponsor of the Chicken Show. We gave each participant and each person buying a chicken a 25 pound bag of our feed.
We were happy to be a part of this 4-H initiative. If you’re interested in the 4-H Youth Chicken Program or 4-H in Alamance County, visit their website.
